Forum explores LASD-BCS controversy

Schools Briefs

The Los Altos Women’s Caucus has scheduled a community forum addressing the facts behind the facilities debate between the Los Altos School District and Bullis Charter School.

“Understanding the Basics: LASD and BCS” is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Orchard Room of the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road. The forum will cover how each entity operates, laws governing their operations and the impact each has on the other.

Robin Abrams and Curtis Cole, members of the district’s Citizens’ Advisory Committee for Finance, will lead the program and present information “to start a community conversation grounded in facts,” organizers said.

Topics will include finances, student populations, an overview of the Proposition 39 process and requirements, governance and education code differences for charter schools.

Event co-sponsors include Los Altos Community Foundation, the Los Altos Library, the Town Crier and the American Association of University Women.
