Elephant fundraiser rescheduled

Los Altos student Uma Chirotarrab’s fourth annual elephant fundraiser is scheduled 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 16 in front of Sethi, 290 Main St., Los Altos.

Uma plans to hand out cookies, answer questions about elephants and collect donations for Tusk, an organization that supports conservation in Africa.

The fundraiser was initially scheduled in November but had to be postponed because of the poor air quality.

Blach holds holiday craft fair

Blach Intermediate School has scheduled its annual holiday craft fair 1-4 p.m. Friday on campus, 1120 Covington Road, Los Altos.

More than 70 seventh- and eighth-grade students have created the crafts, gifts and treats available for purchase at the fair.

Living Classroom recruits docents

Volunteer docents are needed for the Los Altos School District’s Living Classroom program, which delivers hands-on, garden-based lessons to students throughout the school year. Docents connect kids with nature, teach where food comes from and promote environmental stewardship.

Docent training is slated 9 a.m. to noon Monday and Dec. 17 in the iLearn Studio at 201 Covington Road.

No experience is necessary.

K-Kids Club seeks donations

The Loyola School K-Kids Club, sponsored by the Los Altos Kiwanis Club, is collecting toiletries for Community Services Agency of Mountain View and Los Altos.

The club needs new toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, tissues and other toiletries.

To donate, drop items off at the K-Kids collection barrel outside the Loyola School office, 770 Berry Ave., Los Altos.

Egan students host holiday craft fair

Egan Junior High School has scheduled its annual holiday craft fair 7:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Friday on campus, 100 W. Portola Ave., Los Altos.

More than 300 seventh- and eighth-grade students have created crafts, gifts and treats available for purchase at the fair.

Proceeds will support the school’s library.

Flex College Prep offers admissions seminar

Flex College Prep is scheduled to host a free educational seminar, Extracurricular Development: Standing Out from the Competition, 7 p.m. Thursday at 4600 El Camino Real, Suite 201, Los Altos.

The seminar will cover the relevance of extracurricular activities for college admissions and how to incorporate extracurricular activities into an application.

Admission is free and open to all.

Student seeks submissions for literary magazine

Los Altos High School student Mira Chiruvolu seeks submissions for The Hive, a literary magazine she recently launched to highlight and discover new writers, artists and authors from all over the world.

All genres and forms of writing (fiction, poetry, creative writing and journalism) and art (for the website and cover art) are eligible for submission.
