Preschool hosts lecture on balanced children

Children’s Center Preschool has scheduled the presentation “Challenge Success: The Well-Balanced Child” 7 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Children’s Center Multipurpose Room at Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave.

Mary Hofstedt, Ed.M., community education director for Stanford University’s Challenge Success program, will discuss research-based strategies for raising healthy preschoolers in a high-pressure culture.

MV nursery school sponsors 5K & Tot Trot

Mountain View Parent Nursery School has scheduled its annual Down by the Bay 5K & Tot Trot Nov. 4 at Baylands Park, 999 East Caribbean Drive, Sunnyvale. The Tot Trot will begin at 9 a.m. and the 5K at 9:35 a.m.

Cost is $35 for the 5K, $15 for the Tot Trot (ages 8 and under).

Montclaire hosts e-waste drop-off site

Montclaire Elementary School is slated to host an electronic waste drop-off site 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the school’s front parking lot, 1160 St. Joseph Ave., Los Altos.

Eligible items include recyclable electronics, phones, wires, cables, TVs, laptops, desktop computers, CDs, DVDs, printers, batteries, monitors, metals, dishwashers, microwaves and lawn mowers (without gasoline).

A truck and helpers will be available to assist with recyclables.

Drop-off and disposal is free; a portion of the recycling proceeds will support the Montclaire Parent Teacher Organization.
