Vargas set to appear at MVLA event

MVLA Community Scholars and Define American have scheduled a screening of “Documented,” a film by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and immigration activist Jose Antonio Vargas, 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

Vargas, an undocumented immigrant who wrote and directed the film, will appear at the screening. He graduated from Mountain View High School and was an MVLA scholar.

Tickets are $27. A VIP package includes a pre-event reception with Vargas.

BCS schedules parent info nights

Bullis Charter School has scheduled parent information nights to highlight its K-6 and seventh- and eighth-grade programs.

The information night for seventh- and eighth-graders is slated 7 p.m. Jan. 7. The presentation on the K-6 program is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 13. The presentations will take place in the charter school’s multipurpose room, 102 W. Portola Ave., Los Altos.

Superintendent/Principal Wanny Hersey will provide a comprehensive overview of the school’s programs and approach to education.

Cares and Shares sponsors toy drive

Cares and Shares, Courtyard Marriott’s community support program serving Los Altos, Mountain View and Palo Alto, has scheduled a toy drive through Dec. 20.

Cares and Shares, in partnership with the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, is collecting unwrapped toys for youth ages 5-18 at the Courtyard Marriott, 4320 El Camino Real, Los Altos. Those who donate will receive a complimentary breakfast and a tall Starbucks coffee.
