Senior honored as outstanding student of month at LAHS

Jake Harrington, a senior at Los Altos High School, has been selected by his fellow classmates as outstanding student of the month for his contributions to the school newspaper.

As editor of the school newspaper, The Talon, peers and teachers said his leadership has produced many positive changes in the quality of the newspaper. Last summer he met with writers of the newspaper to discuss ideas for implementing changes in the appearance of the paper, for providing more consistency in the types of articles, for covering a variety of student oriented activities in and out of school, and for making an overall improvement in positive and constructive news reporting.

Harrington became interested in communication four years ago through the influence of an uncle who owns a radio station in Southern California. For several years Harrington worked as an independent disc jockey. For the past three years, Harrington has been a member of the Junior Statesman of America and serves as president this year. English is his favorite academic subject. He has been accepted for early admission at Duke University.

English or psychology as a major. He hopes to work on the Duke's daily paper, The Chronicle.
