With the school year just halfway completed, Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) officials report that fundraising has already far surpassed the halfway point to their pledge for the year.
The foundation, a non-profit organization of parent volunteers that raises funds to enrich the Los Altos School District, increased its fundraising target for the current school year by 30 percent, to $2.35 million. Fundraising has passed the $2 million mark, with total donations growing 34 percent over last year. The number of families donating to the fund has also increased significantly.
“Providing the highest-quality public school education is a clear priority for the Los Altos community,” said LAEF President Glenn Goldberg. “This year parents have stepped up in record numbers with the highest donations ever to fund K-8 enrichment programs and smaller class sizes. There’s no doubt that parents are committed to keeping Los Altos one of the top-ranked school districts in the state.”
Goldberg said the additional $540,000 helped keep libraries open, prevented increases in elementary class sizes and maintained the electives in the junior high schools.
Participation in the foundation’s Leadership Circle is also higher than ever, with more than 50 district families to date donating $5,000 or more to help the schools.
The Leadership Circle includes several anonymous donors in addition to Jan and Brent Ahrens, Kristine and Erik Bardman, Roopa Ramaswamy and Sreeram Balakrishnan, So Yong Park and Brian Byun, Jennifer and Brian Carlstrom, Kevin Chatow and Kathy Grundhofer, Jessica and John Clarke, Linda and Alan Cyron, Gaurav and Tara Dhillon, Margie Suozzo and Tom Dillon, Kristen and Douglas Edwards, Sara and Brian Elkin, Rebecca and Rod Fallow, Molly and Scott Forstall, Becky and Mark Fuchs, Amy and Michael Galles, Gail Wong and Mark Goines, Sue and Glenn Goldberg, Wendy and Steve Grant, Dawn and Gary Guthart, Madeline and Andrew Gutow, Kristina and Robert Haeckl, Rae Lee and Karl Hansen, Debby and Jeff Haslem, Lia and Sandy Kandel, Paige and Michael Kaplan, Diane and Joe Kennedy, Isabelle and John Krystynak, Jennifer and David Lin, Karen and Alex Luke, Jennifer and Douglas Mack, Cheryl House and Peter Meyn, Anne and Peter Moran, Alan Pedersen, Alice and Les Poltrack, Heather and Michael Quigley, Jackie and David Radcliffe, Sriram Ramachandran and Meena D’Souza, Mariete and Jeffrey Rothschild, Susan Stark and Jerry Scher, Terry and Gary Spanner, Stacy and Peter Sullivan, Stephanie and Andrew Towell, Adrienne and Neil Tuch, Yoshiko Nishimura and David Vadasz, Lara and John Vastano, Tacy Witter and Jeff Mayer, Polly Tam and Hsien Chung Woo and Daphne Sang and Daniel Wu.
With $350,000 remaining to fulfill the amount the foundation pledged to the Los Altos schools for the 2010-2011 school year, Goldberg said that every donation counts.
