Local students earn college honors

Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, recently recognized two Los Altos students for their academic accomplishments. Mary Albright, a biology and computer science major, received the James Malcolm Moulton Prize in Biology. David Reichert, who is majoring in computer science, received the Allen B. Tucker Computer Science Research Prize.

Meghan Perna of Los Altos made the spring dean’s list at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. To receive the honor, she earned at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

Los Altos Kiwanis Club names 2017 scholarship winners

The Kiwanis Club of Los Altos awarded scholarships to six graduating seniors in the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District. The Kiwanis Club of Los Altos recently awarded scholarships to six graduating seniors from the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District.

At a celebratory luncheon last week, Kiwanis Club officials presented scholarships to Judy Tutuvanu and Mike Hernandez-Martinez of Alta Vista High School, Vanness Leung and Valeria Castro-Chavez of Los Altos High and Tiana Bolin and Yu Zhu of Mountain View High.

Los Altos High senior Isabella Baynard last month received the Felicia Pollock Memorial Scholarship from the Santa Clara County branch of the National League of American Pen Women.

The organization, whose Santa Clara branch was established in 1922, comprises professional woman artists, composers and writers. Its mission is to promote the creation of artistic work that meets a high professional standard, and to provide support to community members in artistic fields.

Local student artists selected for museum exhibition

The artwork of students from five local high schools has been selected for display in the sixth annual “Art Now” exhibition at New Museum Los Gatos. Their works will be on display Thursday through April 16.

A jury comprising art professionals from UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State University and Santa Clara University selected the winning artworks. The competition, open to all high school students in Santa Clara County, received 849 entries in 2016. This year’s entrants created work responding to the theme of “Choices.”
