Noteworthies: Graduations and academic honors

Local students graduate from college

• Krystin E. Skidmore of Los Altos earned a master’s degree in music from Wichita State University. Skidmore’s major was music-opera performance.

Four local students graduated from Tulane University in May.

• Christopher Nelson of Los Altos earned a doctorate in medicine.

• Alexa Ambroseo and Andre Conceicao of Los Altos each earned a bachelor’s in science management.

• Alexander Apitz of Mountain View earned a bachelor’s in science architecture.

Local college students earn academic honors

• Ben Frankel of Mountain View made the spring semester dean’s list at Iowa State University, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or above while carrying at least 12 credit hours of graded course work. Frankel is majoring in computer science.

• Sarina Low of Los Altos made the spring semester dean’s list at the University of Delaware, which requires being enrolled full time and earning a GPA of 3.33 or higher.

• Lucas Ragen of Los Altos made the spring semester dean’s list at James Madison University, which requires a GPA of between 3.5 and 3.899 while carrying at least 12 graded credit hours. Ragen is majoring in management.

• Colin Small of Los Altos made the spring semester dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire, earning highest honors, which are awarded to students who earn a semester GPA of 3.85 or better. To make the dean’s list, a student must take a full-time course load. Small is majoring in computer science.

• Nithya Koganti of Los Altos made the spring semester dean’s list at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which requires a 3.0 or higher GPA.

• Erin Goldberg of Los Altos made the spring semester dean’s list at Bucknell University, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

• Kyla L. Valenti of Los Altos Hills made the spring semester dean’s list at Michigan Technological University, which requires at GPA of 3.5 or higher. Valenti is majoring in social sciences.

• Katja Diekgers of Los Altos and Kelsey Fenger of Los Altos Hills made the second semester dean’s list at Miami University. The top 20% of undergraduate students in each division made the dean’s list.

• Evan Marshall of Los Altos made the spring semester dean’s list at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Marshall is in the graphic design program.

• University of San Diego student Tori Klazura of Los Altos was selected for Mortar Board, a national honor society recognizing students for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Klazura is majoring in mechanical engineering and expects to graduate in 2020.

Three local students made the spring semester dean’s list at Baylor University, which requires a GPA of 3.7 or higher while enrolled in at least 12 semester hours.

• Mountain View: Sarah Christina Caylor, Hankamer School of Business, and Rachel Arissa Risk, College of Arts and Sciences

Ten local students made the spring semester dean’s list at Tufts University, which requires a semester GPA of 3.4 or higher.

• Los Altos: Sohenee Banerjee, freshman; Rebecca Donahue, freshman; Sophie Lloyd, sophomore; Amrita Mecker, junior; William Scott, sophomore; Hayden Wolff, sophomore; and Aaron Wong, senior

• Los Altos Hills: Connor Akiyama, sophomore; Gia Kim, junior; and Erin Poindexter McHan, sophomore

Two Los Altos residents made the spring semester dean’s list at Hamilton College, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher while taking four or more graded credits.

• Gabrielle Buck, a rising junior majoring in literature, is a Menlo School graduate.

• Julia Robbin, a rising sophomore, is a graduate of The Nueva School.

Ten local students made the spring semester dean’s list at Boston University.

• From Los Altos: Darren J. Liu, Nishita Sunkara and Christopher H. Yip

• From Los Altos Hills: Katarina Lyseggen

• From Mountain View: Laura P. Carceroni, Douglas W. Darrah, Jayna Dave, Cynthia L. Moir, Rinka Murakami and Kathryn H. Nuzzolo

Four local students made the spring semester dean’s list or president’s list at Gonzaga University. The dean’s list requires a 3.5-3.84 GPA, while the president’s list requires at least a 3.85 GPA.

• From Los Altos: Malou Parekh (president’s list), Kelsey Moran (dean’s list)

• From Mountain View: James Apffel (dean’s list), Joshua Vahlberg (dean’s list)

Carleton College honored two Los Altos students at its 2019 Honors Convocation.

• Jaylin Lowe received the Will Maitland Prize.

• Will Schwarzer received the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and was honored as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received the Phi Beta Kappa Second Year Prize.
