Local grade-school students experience California history on tours of Los Altos museum

The Los Altos History Museum offers lessons in California history through its annual educational tours for third- and fourth-grade students based in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.

Throughout April and May, the museum’s Education Committee docents lead interactive presentations, hands-on activities and play-acting, and conduct tours of the museum’s exhibits.

The Los Altos High School Green Team’s fifth annual Students for Green High Schools Conference proved to be its largest yet.

Approximately 100 students from 20 schools throughout the Bay Area attended the conference, held Jan. 26 at Google’s Sunnyvale campus.

TheatreWorks brings 'Oskar' to area schools

TheatreWorks brings a pair of plays – both told from the point of view of a 10-year-old named Oskar – to elementary schools in Mountain View and other Bay Area cities through April 5.

“Oskar and the Big Bully Battle” addresses bullying and the importance of choice, while “Oskar and the Last Straw” details Oskar’s experiences with a heavy workload and resulting stress.

Los Altos Hacks, an annual coding event for high school students, begins March 23

The fourth annual Los Altos Hacks is set for March 23 and 24 in the Juniper Aspiration Dome, 1081 Innovation Way, Sunnyvale.

Organized by a team of Los Altos High School students, the hackathon offers an environment for high school coders of all levels – and from all schools – to pursue an idea for 24 hours under the guidance of workshops and mentors. Last year, it hosted 331 students. The experience is free for those accepted.
