Oak celebrates its diversity

People of diverse nationalities took center stage at Oak Avenue School last week at the school’s International Festival and Potluck.

School officials invited students’ family members and local residents to showcase a country of their choice at the event. Festival booths featured information about different countries, regional foods, flags, maps, books, games and craft projects.

MVHS hosts marching band exhibition Saturday

Mountain View High School’s Spartan Marching Band has scheduled its annual “Community Thank You Day” 4-5:30 p.m. Saturday on the school’s football field, 3535 Truman Ave.

The event will feature the premiere performances of the season’s field shows by marching bands from Mountain View, Los Altos, St. Francis and Santa Clara high schools.

College admissions professional headlines MVLA parent event

College admissions expert Lloyd Thacker is scheduled to discuss “Turning the Tide: Reshaping the College Admissions Process” 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Mountain View High School’s Spartan Theater, 3535 Truman Ave.

Thacker’s presentation is part of the Los Altos-Mountain View School Speaker Series.

Foothill College stages Physics Show this month

The Foothill College Physics Show features science experiments that highlight real-life physics applications, above. The shows, scheduled Saturday and Sunday, are designed to engage all ages.

The Foothill College Physics Show, a family-friendly display of science experiments, is scheduled 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Foothill’s Smithwick Theatre, 12345 S. El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.

The 75-minute live performances introduce scientific concepts such as light, sound, resonance and pressure to elementary and middle school students and their families.
