Voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on a range of local education races in the Nov. 3 election.
The candidate filing period closed Friday; however, the filing deadline is extended until 5 p.m. today in races for which any of the eligible incumbents didn’t file to run.
Below is a summary of the candidates for local races, based on information from the County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters. The county was still in the process of finalizing the list of candidates who qualified for the ballot, as of the Town Crier’s deadline.
The race is uncontested for two seats on the five-member Los Altos School District Board of Trustees. Incumbents Jessica Speiser and Steve Taglio are the only ones who filed.
Three candidates are vying for two seats on the five-member Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District Board of Trustees. The candidates are incumbents Sanjay Dave and Phil Faillace, and challenger Laura Teksler.
Three seats are up for a vote on the five-member Mountain View Whisman School District Board of Trustees. Of the three incumbents, Laura Blakely, José Gutiérrez and Tamara Wilson, only Blakely filed. Gutiérrez is running for Mountain View City Council. Three nonincumbents also filed: Laura Ramirez Berman, Christopher K. Chiang and Patrick Neschleba.
Because only one incumbent filed, a spokesperson for the county registrar of voters said the filing deadline is likely being extended. However, as of the Town Crier’s deadline, the extension was still being finalized.
