LASD reaches settlement in assault lawsuit

The Los Altos School District paid $225,000 to the family of a 10-year-old girl who alleged that the district failed to protect her from two assaults during recess two years ago.

The girl’s family, represented by San Diego attorney Patty Lewis and Long Beach attorney Joseph Low, sued the district in 2017. According to the complaint, two boys attacked the girl behind an unfenced shed on two separate days during the lunch recess period. The family’s lawyers argued that the district did not take adequate steps to protect the girl and that as a result of the incidents, she has suffered and will continue to require future medical care.

The girl’s family’s attorneys and district Superintendent Jeffrey Baier did not respond to requests for comment before the Town Crier’s press deadline.
