After a summerlong search, the Los Altos Educational Foundation Board of Trustees named Heather Macdonald the organization’s new executive director.
Macdonald has lived in Palo Alto for 23 years, volunteering for local organizations such as the League of Women Voters, the Palo Verde Elementary School PTA and the Sequoia Adult School Scholars. While she originally worked in the corporate world, Macdonald said she felt drawn elsewhere.
“I was always passionate about education and nonprofits. I had been donating money and my time and really felt like it wasn’t enough,” said Macdonald of her transition to nonprofit work. “I really wanted to make that switch and make that my career.”
Macdonald previously served as chief operating officer of Menlo Park’s nonprofit Art in Action, where she spent the last decade, and prior to that worked in the for-profit sector for more than 15 years, including a stint as director of corporate services at Intuit Inc.
She has experience working with donors, boards of directors and volunteers to meet the mission and exceed revenue targets of an organization.
