This year's Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade is rained out.
Organizers of the popular downtown event have announced cancellation in anticipation of inclement weather. The parade was scheduled for a 6 p.m. start on Sunday. The annual parade is typically held the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
"This is not a decision we made lightly," volunteers with the Festival of Lights Parade Association said in a statement. "Our all-volunteer committee has put hundreds of hours of work into this year's event, and we are tremendously disappointed to not be able to share it with our community."
The committee said all weather predictions indicate "a significant risk of precipitation Sunday. Our delicate floats get exposed to the elements from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every year on parade day; our commitment to future successful parades means that we simply cannot put them at risk this Sunday.
"We look forward to showing them off next year, and for many years to come."
There is no make-up date for this year's parade. The next scheduled event is Nov. 29, 2020.
