LAHS gymnasium named for legendary 'Dude'

The Board of Trustees of the Mountain View Los Altos High School District voted unanimously Jan. 28 to name the Los Altos High School (LAHS) Gymnasium in honor of Dushan (Dude) Angius, Jr.

The board's action caps an effort by a committee of Angius backers who presented a petition of more than 1,000 signatures in support. The committee also plans to establish a scholarship fund in Dude Angius’ name to support deserving LAHS graduates.

The District and Naming Committee will host a ceremony May 3 to commemorate the gymnasium.

Angius was the first athletic director and coach at LAHS when the school opened in 1955. During his tenure at LAHS, Angius served as chairman of the physical education department, director of athletics, director of student activities, a counselor, and was the principal from 1965 to 1975.
