First Street liquor store robbed (again)

A downtown business was the site of an armed robbery earlier this week – albeit not a bank.

According to Los Altos Police, a suspect armed with a semi-automatic handgun entered Standard Liquors at approximately 8:45 p.m., Tuesday (March 19), placed a paper grocery bag on the service counter and pointed his weapon at the cashier, demanding money.

Fearing for his safety, the store employee complied and placed cash into the bag. The suspect then took the bag, placed his gun inside it before leaving the First Street store on foot.

Police described the suspect as a white adult male with a medium build, between 25 and 30 years old, between 5 feet, 10 inches and six feet tall, and weighing approximately 170-190 pounds. The suspect was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored pants and a black handkerchief that covered his nose and mouth. The robber also wore white gloves with a blue rubber coating on the palm and lower fingers.

An armed suspect robbed the same store in February; police have not said if the crimes are linked.

Anyone with information is asked to call Los Altos Police at 947-2770.
