Candidate round-up: More filings for local races as deadline nears

With the filing deadline closing this week, more potential candidates are emerging for local races in the Nov. 3 election. 

The candidate nomination period opened July 13 and runs through Friday. If any of the eligible incumbents in a race don’t file, the deadline is extended until Aug. 12 for new candidates.

Below is a summary of possible contenders, as of the Town Crier’s Monday press deadline.

Los Altos City Council

Three seats are open on the five-seat Los Altos City Council. Jan Pepper and Jeannie Bruins are both termed-out. The potential candidates, thus far:
• Pierre Bedard: taken out nomination papers.
• Terri Couture: filed.
• Kuljeet Singh Kalkat: taken out nomination papers.
• Lee Eng: incumbent, taken out nomination papers.
• Sally Meadows: filed.
• Scott Spielman: taken out nomination papers.
• Jonathan Weinberg: taken out nomination papers.

LAH City Council

Los Altos Hills also has three seats up for a vote on its five-member council. Courtenay C. Corrigan is termed-out after serving two four-year terms. Incumbents Michelle Wu and Roger Spreen have both said they are undecided on whether to run for another term. The potential candidates:
• Ramon E. Jimenez: taken out nomination papers.
• Stanley Q. Mok: taken out nomination papers.
• Raj Reddy: taken out nomination papers.
• Lisa Schmidt: taken out nomination papers.
• Jay T. Sutaria: taken out nomination papers.
• Linda G. Swan: taken out nomination papers.

Mountain View City Council

Four seats are up for grabs on the seven-seat Mountain View City Council. Chris Clark and John McAlister are both termed-out after completing two consecutive four-year terms. The potential candidates:
• Margaret Abe-Koga: incumbent, filed.
• José Gutiérrez: taken out nomination papers.
• John Lashlee: taken out nomination papers.
• Sally Lieber: taken out nomination papers.
• Lisa Matichak: incumbent, taken out nomination papers.
• Alex Núñez: taken out nomination papers.
• Paul Roales: taken out nomination papers.
• Pat Showalter: taken out nomination papers.
• Lenny Siegel: filed.

El Camino Healthcare District

Six potential candidates have expressed interest in the three open seats on the El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors. The five-member board oversees the healthcare district, including El Camino Hospital. The potential candidates:
• Meghan Fraley: taken out nomination papers.
• Gary Kalbach: incumbent, taken out nomination papers.
• Jane Chen Lombard: filed.
• Julia E. Miller: incumbent, filed.
• Carol Ann Somersille: taken out nomination papers.
• John L. Zoglin: incumbent, taken out nomination papers.
