Temporary visiting restrictions took effect Monday at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View to reduce the risk of influenza to patients, visitors and staff.
Hospital officials ask those with flu-like symptoms (cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat or body aches) not to visit patients.
Children under the age of 16 also are restricted from visiting patients, according to a press release issued by the hospital Jan. 5. Children are at greater risk for complications of certain respiratory infections, especially influenza, and are more likely to represent a health risk to patients, the released stated.
The restrictions – also in place at El Camino Hospital’s Los Gatos location – will continue as long as necessary during the influenza season.
The best flu prevention tactics involve simple behaviors, such as handwashing, coughing into a tissue or a sleeve and staying at home if you have flu-like symptoms, according to hospital officials.
