Foothill hosts One Man Show

Foothill College, in partnership with its Authors Series and the Brother-to-Brother program, has scheduled a one-night benefit featuring award-winning author and comedian Brian Copeland performing "Not a Genuine Black Man," his acclaimed One Man Show, 7 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Smithwick Theatre.

Copeland, who resides in the Bay Area and hosts a radio show on KGO, uses humor to address serious social and political problems.

"Not a Genuine Black Man" deals with the lingering effects of Copeland's childhood as an African-American in the then predominantly white Bay Area suburb of San Leandro. The show touches on themes of isolation, racial identity and redemption. Copeland also authored a memoir of the same name.

A reception and book signing will follow the performance.

Tickets are $25 general admission; $20 seniors and students with identification. Proceeds benefit the Brother-to-Brother program.

To purchase tickets, call 949-7360 or visit http://preznet.fhda.edu/fas.html.
