Another Lexus crashes into downtown building

Two Lexuses in just more than a week have crashed into downtown Los Altos buildings.

Police reported that the driver of a Lexus GS3000 accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake Saturday and crashed into Burger Town on San Antonio Road. The driver sustained minor injuries, and there was minimal damage to the building.

Eight days earlier, 83-year-old Los Altos Hills resident Virginia Pavlina crashed her Lexus IS250 into the U.S. Bank on Main Street, blaming the accident on mechanical problems with the car.

"It actually does happen quite often, more than people realize," Los Altos Police Capt. Andy Galea said of such incidents. "It happens for a variety of reasons. Sometimes people do get confused."

In both recent cases, the department would not confirm the names of the drivers, because Galea said the crashes were not considered crimes. The Town Crier independently verified Pavlina's identity after her crash.
