'Glorious Fourth' provides musical backdrop for picnic

Los Altos Ye Olde Towne Band will play for the Glorious Fourth celebration at Shoup Park Friday.

The Los Altos Community Foundation has scheduled the annual Los Altos-Los Altos Hills Independence Day Celebration 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Shoup Park, 400 University Ave., Los Altos.

The eighth "Glorious Fourth: A Musical Tribute to the 4th of July" is free and welcomes families to the festivities.

John Moss, former Los Altos mayor and city councilman, will serve as master of ceremonies.

Ye Olde Towne Band will open the commemoration with 30 minutes of music. Los Altos Mayor Val Carpenter and Los Altos Hills Mayor Craig Jones will deliver brief speeches with musical interludes by the band. Local jazz band The Unicorns is scheduled to play for the first time at the event, taking the stage 12:15-1:45 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic lunches, no food will be sold at the event. Parking is available but limited, at Shoup Park and on University Avenue.

The celebration is also supported by the Rotary Club of Los Altos, the Los Altos Town Crier, the city of Los Altos, Ye Olde Towne Band and Los Altos American Legion Post 558.
