Los Altos second in voter turnout; city favored Gore

Los Altos was second in percentage of votes cast in the Nov. 7 election, based on figures released last week from the county Registrar of Voters.

Out of 19,343 registered voters, 15,850 cast ballots, a turnout of 81.9 percent. Only Monte Sereno had a higher percentage with 82.1 percent.

Los Altos Hills had the third highest turnout with 4,648 ballots cast out of 5,684 registered voters, 81.8 percent. Countywide turnout was 70.7 percent.

For president, more Los Altos residents went with Al Gore than George W. Bush, despite the city's rich Republican history. Figures showed 8,354 voted for Gore, while 6,574 voted for Bush. In Los Altos Hills, voters favored Bush over Gore, 2,301 to 2,084.
