Work on expansion of Foothill Expressway in Los Altos is set to begin the week of April 13, according to Los Altos and Santa Clara County transportation officials.
Tom Madalena, Los Altos transportation manager, confirmed Monday the project is moving foward.
Delays with contractor scheduling and construction materials pushed the start date ahead by a month, said Christine Lee of the county’s Roads and Airports Department. The initial start date was the beginning of March.
The $6.6 million project is intended to improve safety and address a commute bottleneck along the expressway between the El Monte Avenue and San Antonio Road intersections.
Some elements include additional lanes in each direction, a second through lane on westbound El Monte, a second right-turn lane on southbound Foothill onto El Monte and the squaring of all four corners at the Foothill-El Monte intersection to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety.
