Members of the Mountain View Police Department bomb squad who investigated what a police spokesperson characterized as a “suspicious device” Saturday (Feb. 13) subsequently determined the item did not pose threat.
A passerby walking along the Stevens Creek Trail noticed the item near the East Middlefield Road overpass at approximately 9:45 a.m. Saturday and called the police department, public information officer Katie Nelson told the Town Crier in an email sent Tuesday. As a precautionary measure, police officers and rangers closed the popular recreation route between approximately 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and redirected eastbound and westbound Middlefield Road vehicle traffic between Moffett Boulevard and Easy Street during the investigation.
When prompted, Nelson declined to describe the mystery item.
“Because of follow-up on the case, we can’t release more details at this time,” she explained in her email.
