Mountain View Police detectives seek information from anyone who may have been victimized by a transient man arrested early Wednesday (Aug. 28) morning for allegedly trying to assault a woman in the shower at a local gym.
Officers arrested Damon Quincy Jones, 41, and charged him with intent to commit a sex crime, burglary and lewd conduct in public, according to a police department press release.
Employees of 24 Hour Fitness, located at 550 Showers Drive, called police at approximately 3:15 a.m. Wednesday to report an attempted sexual assault in the women’s locker room, according to the release. A gym member told officers a man had tried to grab her while she showered. He raised the pitch of his voice to impersonate a woman when she told him to stop entering her shower stall, but he ignored her, entered the stall and tried to touch her, causing her to scream and hit him.
The attacker left the gym before officers arrived, but they located Jones, who matched the suspect description, nearby in the Walmart parking lot, according to the release. Subsequent investigation revealed Jones had been implicated in prior lewd acts committed at the 24 Hour Fitness Super-Sport Gym, located at 2535 California Street.
“Based on these two incidents, we believe there may be additional victims that Jones may have targeted,” according to the release. “Jones is known to frequent Menlo Park, Mountain View and Fremont. He also is known to frequent the states of Washington and Illinois.”
