Village Pantry, pictured, and Baskin Robbins in downtown Los Altos were broken into early Wednesday morning (Aug. 14), the Los Altos Police Department said.

Downtown Los Altos businesses Village Pantry, located at 184 Second St., and Baskin Robbins, located at 264 State St., were both hit by burglaries overnight when a suspect or suspects broke in by jimmying the lock, according to Los Altos police Sgt. Steve Spillman.

Cash was stolen from registers at both locations, Spillman said, between approximately 3 and 4 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 14). Police do not know how much money was stolen at this time, as the investigation is still in the earliest phases.

Officers hope to obtain more surveillance footage from nearby shops and have contacted owners in order to obtain video, Spillman said. The Village Pantry restaurant’s video footage, which Spillman described as "not very good in quality," showed one man messing with the locks around the believed time frame the burglaries took place.

The story will be updated online and in print as we gather more details.
