A Mountain View man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl from Sunnyvale is being held at the Santa Clara County Jail without bail following his arrest Monday (May 13).
Sean Muilenburg, 46, is charged with rape of a child under 14 years of age and lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14 years of age.
Muilenburg first came into contact with the victim through an online adult dating website, which he used as a platform to engage in inappropriate behavior with her, according to the Mountain View Police Department. The two exchanged cellphone numbers and arranged to meet at a Sunnyvale park, where Muilenburg picked her up.
Muilenburg allegedly drove the girl to his home – located in the 500 block of Chesley Court, near Cooper Park – and “engaged in non-consensual sexual acts” with her there, according to a police department press release.
The girl was reported as missing at approximately 2 a.m. Monday, according to the press release. As Sunnyvale Police officers investigated, they learned she had been texting with someone who lived at Muilenburg’s address. Mountain View officers responded to the home and apprehended Muilenburg as he returned from dropping off the victim a short distance from her residence in Sunnyvale.
