A Mountain View woman died Saturday (April 13) night in her city of residence after being hit by a car at the intersection of El Camino Real and Palo Alto Avenue, according to a statement from the Mountain View Police Department.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office Tuesday morning named the victim as Mary Ellen Cabanski Evers, 59.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. April 13, Mountain View dispatchers received reports that Evers was lying unconscious in the roadway just blocks from Shoreline Boulevard. Police spokeswoman Katie Nelson said crews from Mountain View’s police and fire departments and the Los Altos Police Department responded within minutes to the incident, which they believe happened just before the calls came in.
Although several emergency personnel attempted to save Evers' life at the scene of the accident, she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The driver, also a female, stayed at the site and cooperated with officers, police said.
Due to the unknown cause or circumstances of the incident, no arrests were made, Nelson confirmed.
Westbound lanes at El Camino Real and Shoreline Boulevard were shut down until approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning to enable traffic investigators space to review the scene.
“This allowed cars enough space/time to go around the area (and to not potentially contaminate the scene),” Nelson told the Town Crier.
Nelson said she believed there were witnesses on scene but could not comment before the Town Crier’s press deadline on the information they were able to provide officers Saturday evening.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Sgt. Bryan Albarillo at 903-6344.
