Santa Clara County Fire Department rescuers didn’t have to travel far to respond to at least one emergency situation Monday evening: the ramming of their own fire station.
The cacophony of a crash drove firefighters from the El Monte fire station at approximately 6 p.m. Monday (April 8), according to a department press release. Outside, they discovered a Suburban had struck the brick masonry wall attached to the station.
None of the firefighters were injured and the Foothill College campus building did not sustain structural damage, but the elderly male driver of the SUV had serious injuries that required an ambulance trip to Stanford University Hospital, according to the release. It is not known whether his injuries were caused by the accident or by a prior medical emergency.
