Police arrest woman on fraud charges
Los Altos Police last week arrested a 20-year-old Daly City woman for fraudulently using one victim’s bank account to cash the forged check of a second victim.
According to Los Altos Police Sgt. Scott McCrossin, officers arrested Yolanda Beltran July 7 as she was crossing San Antonio Road in the downtown area shortly after noon.
The arrest occurred after Beltran allegedly entered a downtown bank and deposited a forged check from one victim into a second victim’s bank account. McCrossin noted that she posed as the second victim and presented false identification at the bank before withdrawing an undisclosed amount of cash from the second victim’s account.
McCrossin said Beltran returned to the same bank later that day and raised the suspicions of bank employees, who uncovered that she was fraudulently using the victim’s account as she left the building. The employees then contacted police, who tracked Beltran down and apprehended her on San Antonio Road.
