The coronavirus threat has prompted postponement of Sunday’s scheduled Los Altos forum on the pros and cons of a natural gas ban. A local grassroots group, Los Altos Residents, had organized the discussion. A makeup date has yet to be announced.
The Los Altos City Council is considering a ban on natural gas in new home construction and in major remodels. Several residents voiced opposition to the ban when members of the city’s Environmental Commission discussed reach codes at their March 9 meeting. Reach codes are building energy codes that “reach” beyond minimum state requirements in building design and construction.
The council in November agreed to move forward with pursuing a natural gas ban, leaving it to the city’s Environmental Commission to fine-tune an ordinance.
The city of Los Altos and the Environmental Commission had scheduled a March 31 educational community workshop on the reach codes and the proposed draft ordinance, but that meeting, too, has been canceled.
Los Altos Residents was founded last year with the mission to ensure “residents’ interests are accurately assessed and represented by city council, commissions and staff.”
