Los Altos city clerk quits after six months

The city of Los Altos lists nine job openings on its website. The total will be 10 when city clerk Dennis Hawkins departs next month.

According to a statement from the city, Hawkins recently resigned and is on administrative leave. His last day of employment with the city is April 3.

Hawkins’ absence was noticeable at the March 10 Los Altos City Council meeting. Police Capt. Katie Krauss stepped in to serve as interim city clerk.

Hawkins, hired Sept. 3, came to Los Altos after serving as city clerk for the city of San Jose.

The Los Altos position had been vacant for six months after Sarah Henricks’ quiet departure in March 2019. Hawkins relieved then-deputy city clerk Jon Maginot of the additional tasks he had taken on after Henricks’ exit. Maginot now serves as deputy city manager under Chris Jordan.
