The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors last week unanimously elected Supervisor Cindy Chavez as president. Supervisor Mike Wasserman will serve as vice president.
Former board president Joe Simitian served as president for the past two years and will continue to serve on the board. Chavez presented him with the traditional honorary gavel.
According to Chavez, 2020 is going to be a “very productive and important year” for the county, with a new Voter’s Choice voting system, the Census 2020 count, a “robust” women’s agenda, additional county hospitals and improvements in public safety.
Chavez is scheduled to give the State of the County address 5:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in the board chambers, 70 W. Hedding St. in San Jose, to outline much of what will appear on the board’s agendas in the next year.
