Siegel takes reins as MV mayor

Lenny Siegel was scheduled to be appointed the next mayor of Mountain View at Tuesday’s city council meeting. The meeting occurred after the Town Crier’s Monday press deadline.

Siegel succeeds Ken Rosenberg as mayor.

As in Los Altos, Mountain View councilmembers are elected by voters and take turns serving as mayor for one year. The councilmember appointed vice mayor is usually next in line for mayoral duties. Lisa Matichak, the top vote-getter in the 2016 council election, was in line for appointment as vice mayor.

Elected to the council in 2014, Siegel has been an outspoken rent control and affordable housing advocate. He founded the group Campaign for a Balanced Mountain View to push for bridging the gap in the city’s jobs-housing imbalance.
