County closes all public schools, limits public gatherings

The Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District board of trustees discusses the potential of closing schools. The district decided to cancel school this morning before the county's announcement.

Public schools throughout Santa Clara County will close to students Monday (March 16) through April 3 in light of the coronavirus pandemic, County Superintendent of Schools Mary Ann Dewan announced at a press conference March 13.

The city of Los Altos declared a state of emergency last week in relation to the presence of the novel coronavirus in Santa Clara County, and local businesses are bracing for tough times ahead.

Los Altos High student quarantined on cruise ship with coronavirus victims

Update: Kailee Higgins Ott and her mother are now being quarantined at Travis Air Force Base in Solano County.

A Los Altos High School student was among the more than 3,000 people quarantined on the Grand Princess cruise ship, held off the coast of San Francisco after some passengers and crew members tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
