22 COVID cases reported in Los Altos

As of April 17, Los Altos has 22 documented cases of COVID-19, according to statistics compiled by the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department.

The department began releasing a city-by-city breakdown of the cases April 9. The case count as of April 17 shows Mountain View with 42 cases and Los Altos Hills with “less than 10” cases.

Cupertino, with 22, has the same number of cases as Los Altos. San Jose leads the rest of the county by a wide margin with 1,232. A total of 107 cases are filed under no particular city, designated “Other/Unknown.”

Health authorities qualified their numbers by adding: “Community transmission is believed to be widespread throughout Santa Clara County. Limited testing capacity means case counts represent only a small portion of actual cases within each city.”

Overall, health officials reported 1,922 cases and 83 deaths countywide as of April 20.
