History Museum hosts outdoor movie night

The Los Altos History Museum has scheduled an outdoor screening of the Pixar-animated Disney film “Ratatouille” 8:30 p.m. Aug. 14 in the museum’s courtyard, 51 S. San Antonio Road.

Keeping with the food theme of the museum’s current exhibition, “Silicon Valley Eats: A Taste for Innovation,” “Ratatouille” tells the story of Remy the rat, who dreams of becoming a great chef despite being in a rodent-phobic profession.

Experts offer food for thought at museum event


The Los Altos History Museum has scheduled “Eating Your Values,” a panel discussion on making food choices that positively impact ongoing social concerns 7 p.m. Aug. 15 in the Orchard Room of the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

The event will begin with an informal reception at 6:30 p.m., with appetizers provided by Epicurean Group, at the museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.

YMCA's all-inclusive Dance for All engages families with special needs

The El Camino YMCA’s Dance for All program offers a space for young and old alike to experience the joy of movement to music with no judgment, no criticism and no fear.

The all-inclusive classes encourage parents to dance with their children with special needs alongside kids labeled “normal.” All levels learn at their own pace and are given the freedom to express themselves with no preconceived ideas of perfection.

Local mother and daughter perform at Estonian music festival

Mother and daughter Margaret and Elizabeth Barnett of Los Altos recently traveled to Europe to perform in front of thousands of people at Laulupidu, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Estonian festival’s Song Celebration.

The Barnetts sang with the Estonian Community Choir of San Francisco, one of eight American choirs in a festival that featured 1,020 of them. To qualify, the choir had to undergo a two-part selection process that involved learning the festival set list – in the Estonian language.

Beth Am hosts events for potential members

Congregation Beth Am has scheduled Shabbat services 6:15 Fridays in August in the congregation’s Outdoor Chapel, 26790 Arastradero Road, Los Altos Hills.

The services are designed for prospective new members, and attendees are encouraged to invite friends, relatives, neighbors and colleagues to join in celebrating Shabbat.
