Rotary volunteers celebrate work at home, overseas

More than 150 Rotarians and their guests attended an evening of dance music, appetizers, wines and desserts July 27 at the home of Bart Nelson, a member of the Rotary Club of Los Altos.

Los Altos resident Shaya Ben-David dances approximately 19 hours a week at the Bay Area Dance School – and summer only means more dancing.

This summer, the 12-year-old attended American Ballet Theatre’s Young Dancer Intensive in New York, danced at Master Ballet Academy’s intensive in Arizona and competed in Georgia, where her near-constant training paid off when she won the title of Miss Junior Dance of America.

Plant-based foods touted in GreenTown event Aug. 25

GreenTown Los Altos has scheduled the “Eating Green on the Green” Educational Fair 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 25 on the Downtown Green, located on Third Street between Main and State streets in Los Altos.

Attendees can explore the benefits of plant-based foods and chat with experts presenting the main challenges of animal agriculture and offering positive and easy-to-implement solutions. Focuses include:

Local Arts Roundup: 'Layers' coming to Los Altos Hills Town Hall

Yvonne Newhouse’s “A Voice of Many” is among the works slated for display in “Layers.”

The exhibition “Layers,” featuring the work of members of the Women’s Caucus for Art’s Peninsula Chapter, is scheduled for display September through March at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 W. Fremont Road.

Founded in 1972 in connection with the College Art Association, the Women’s Caucus for Art is a national organization with a multidisciplinary, multicultural membership of artists, art historians, students, educators and museum professionals. The mission of the organization is to expand opportunities and recognition for women in the arts.
