Artist D.A. “Dave” Hendrickson recently donated a painting to the Los Altos nonprofit organization WomenSV, which helps affluent victims of domestic violence.

Tour of the universe to benefit LALE


Fraknoi

Astronomer Andrew Fraknoi is scheduled to lead “A Grand Tour of the Universe” 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Program Room at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.

Sponsored by the Los Altos Library Endowment, the nontechnical presentation is designed for anyone with an interest in the wonders of the universe. The mission of LALE is to increase financial support for the library’s services, collections, equipment, facilities and programs.

Exhibition explores history of gadgets

The Los Altos History Museum’s latest exhibition, “Gadgets Galore! Transforming the American Household,” highlights how gadgets from alarm clocks to coffeemakers, cellphones and cameras originated and came to play such an integral role in daily life.

“Gadgets Galore!” is on display at the museum’s J. Gilbert Smith House through Sept 15.

Midpen district awards first community grants

The Los Altos-based Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District recently awarded its first community grants as part of a new program aimed at expanding partnerships.

“We are excited for this opportunity to build deeper connections and strengthen and diversify our community partnerships,” Midpen general manager Ana Maria Ruiz said.
