Hidden Villa hosts 'Food Worth Celebrating' event

Hidden Villa is scheduled to host its second “Food Worth Celebrating” event 4-7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the environmental farm and wilderness preserve, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills.

Organizers said the event will honor the people and processes “contributing to a more resilient, just and thriving regional food system.”

Corvette Spectacular returns to downtown Los Altos

Organizers of this year’s Corvette Spectacular plan to display 165 cars along Main Street in downtown Los Altos.

Santa Clara Corvettes’ 43rd annual Corvette Spectacular is scheduled 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 22 on Main Street in Los Altos.

Billed as one of the largest all-Corvette car shows in Northern California, the event will feature approximately 165 Corvettes and is expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees.

n Chapman Research on the life of Thomas Foon Chew, owner of Bay Side Cannery in Alviso and Mayfield, led to the discovery that he canned fruits and vegetables under seven different brand names.

One interesting thing about writing history’s stories is that even after a book is published, the research continues. Publishing has deadlines; learning never ends.

Former Los Altos mayor now recognized as a 'Hometown Hero'


 

Longtime Los Altos community leader Mary Prochnow is slated to be honored Thursday as a “Hometown Hero” at Community Services Agency’s annual breakfast fundraiser. The event is scheduled for a 7:15 a.m. start at the Computer History Museum, 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View.

“Hometown Heroes” recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations for their contributions to CSA and the community. The nonprofit CSA provides a safety net for thousands of elderly, low-income and homeless individuals in Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills each year.

First Friday features 'Dancing in the Streets'

The San Juan Sensations, pictured here in their First Friday hats, are set to do some “Dancing in the Streets” Friday evening.

This month’s First Friday festivities – with the theme “Dancing in the Streets” – are scheduled 6-8 p.m. Friday in downtown Los Altos.

The evening will feature a performance by the San Juan Sensations dance troupe from the San Juan School of Dance in Los Altos at Veterans Community Plaza, located at the intersection of Main and State streets.
