Mountain View city officials are seeking new docents to volunteer at the historic Rengstorff House.

City of Mountain View officials seek volunteer docents for the historic Rengstorff House at Shoreline Park in order to expand visitor hours.

An open house event is scheduled 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 21 at the home, located at 3070 N. Shoreline Boulevard. Prospective volunteers are invited to ask questions, mingle and tour the house. A “modest” tea will be served, according to city representatives. Docents available to work Sundays between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. are especially in demand.

Built circa 1867 by entrepreneur Henry Rengstorff, the 12-room Rengstorff House is considered Mountain View’s oldest historic home and one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture on the West Coast, according to Friends of the “R” House, a supporting nonprofit organization.

Register for the open house event in advance by visiting or by calling 903-6073. RSVPs are required by Monday (Jan. 15).
