The Rotary Club of Los Altos has scheduled its Fine Art in the Park show 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 18 and 19 at Lincoln Park, located at the corner of University Avenue and Foothill Expressway.
The annual fundraiser showcases artwork available for purchase. Proceeds benefit Los Altos and Mountain View nonprofits groups and fund grants to international projects and scholarships for high school seniors and youth groups. Two dozen local nonprofit agencies received Rotary grants totaling $38,835 in the past year.
Recipient organizations include the Community Health Awareness Council, the Community Services Agency and Child Advocates of Santa Clara County, among others.
The club supports local youth via Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), a leadership training camp for incoming high school seniors, educational programs for at-risk teens, Rotary Speech contests, scouting, camperships and art awards.
Rotary awards scholarships from $800 to $2,500 to seniors from Los Altos, Mountain View, Alta Vista and St. Francis high schools each spring to assist with college.
Two students from each local middle school also receive funds each year.
International projects that receive Fine Art in the Park funds span the globe. The largest continuing effort is Child AIDS Prevention, which inhibits mother-to-child transmission of HIV during the birth process and postnatal breast-feeding.
Parking is available at Los Altos High, 201 Almond Ave., with a free shuttle service to and from the park.
