Los Altos Mayor Jarrett Fishpaw and Los Altos Hills Mayor Gary Waldeck proclaimed Saturday “Los Altos Rotary Day” in honor of the 108th anniversary of the founding of the Rotary International service organization. Activities related to the organization and the projects it supports are scheduled 2-5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Los Altos.
The anniversary celebration is designed to promote the concept of service and encourage residents to participate in the service project of their choice.
“This event will create greater community awareness of what Rotary is and the specific focus of Los Altos Rotary Club projects locally and internationally,” Chairwoman Carol Garsten said.
Rotarians will stroll downtown streets, identifiable by their blue and gold Rotary balloons. Display tables will be located at Community Plaza (corner of Main and State streets), the Costume Bank, Nature Gallery and Adventure Toys & Teachers’ Supplies. Projects on display include Partners for New Generations, Partners for Elder Generations, Child AIDS Prevention in Africa, Veterans Welcome Home and solar cooking and water purification in developing countries.
