Free locomotive rides are available during Friday night’s First Friday festivities in downtown Los Altos.
Los Altos Forward celebrates its first anniversary of First Fridays with an event 6-10 p.m. Friday in downtown Los Altos. This month’s theme is “All Aboard for the Holidays.”
Organizers started the monthly events in December 2011 as a way to increase downtown vibrancy. The Friday festivities, which feature different themes, include expanded hours for stores, live entertainment and free refreshments.
Visitors to this Friday’s event can enjoy happy hour 5-6 p.m. at Fiesta Vallarta, Maltby’s Restaurant & Tavern, Opa! or Ristorante Bella Vita.
From 6-8 p.m., attendees can browse and shop at stores and galleries, many of which will provide First Friday discounts and complimentary refreshments and beverages.
Children can hop on the locomotive and enjoy a free ride around downtown, sit on Santa’s lap at 359 State St. and play the Find the Train Ticket game.
Musicians and carolers will perform.
Attendees are asked to bring a canned good for the local food drive.
Drawings are scheduled for gift certificates donated by local stores and restaurants. For tickets to the drawing, either purchase merchandise during First Friday or participate in the Find the Train Ticket game.
From 7:30-10 p.m., a holiday party at 359 State St. will feature beer, wine, snacks and seasonal music.
The First Friday headquarters at 359 State will offer programs, information, Santa visits and drawing registration.
All activities are scheduled indoors, so the event will take place rain or shine.
“It’s been a great run – I think we’ve brought a lot of vibrancy to downtown,” said First Friday organizer Joe Eyre. “(We’ve) opened people’s eyes to the possibilities for community-building, creating temporary public spaces with music and games, and involving the merchants in ways that help them out while also being fun for the visitors. Also, it shows the power and dedication of the volunteers – residents, merchants and property owners – who have planned and executed the First Fridays.”
