The Rotary Club of Los Altos presented its annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors at a May 17 luncheon.
The Rotary Club distributed a total of $24,900 among the winners of its 2012 Community Service Scholarships and its 2012 Outstanding Young Persons Awards.
The Community Service Scholarship recipients, their high schools and the colleges they plan to attend include: Rachel Budenholzer (St. Francis, Villanova University), Marlen Cigarrero (Alta Vista, De Anza College), Axel Cipres Perea (Alta Vista, De Anza College), Nicole Giron (St. Francis, Stanford University), Aaron Lim (Mountain View, University of Southern California), Benjamin Macedo (Los Altos, San Jose State University), Carlos Marquez (Mountain View, Cal Poly Pomona), Jonathan Palmas (Alta Vista, De Anza College), Vivian Phung (St. Francis, Brown University), Gabriella Seltzer (Los Altos, Lewis & Clark College), Andrew Wang (St. Francis, Pennsylvania State University) and Tiffany Wooten (Mountain View, San Jose State University).
Three of the Community Service Scholarship recipients also received designated memorial scholarships that recognize academic excellence: Marquez earned the 2012 Charles Cowan Scholarship for Science and Technology, Phung the 2012 Billy Russell Scholarship and Seltzer the 2012 Lee Lynch Scholarship.
Winners of the Outstanding Young Persons Award, presented to one male and one female from each of the two public junior high schools in Los Altos, are Dominique Lau and Yasha Ektefaie from Blach, and Vanessa Mark and Eric Thiem from Egan.
