Los Altos police take the torch

Local residents should keep their eyes peeled at approximately 3 p.m. Thursday as members of the Los Altos Police Department run through town bearing the Special Olympics torch.

The annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run cuts across Santa Clara County, starting south of San Jose and ending in Palo Alto.

Runners from the Los Altos Police Department will pick up the torch on El Camino Real at El Monte Avenue and run to Cesano Court, where they will hand it off to Palo Alto Police representatives. One lane of traffic will remain open on El Camino through the area, but motorists should expect slowdowns.

The Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest year-round fundraising event benefiting the Special Olympics. The projects aims to raise money and to spread awareness of the athletes who participate in the Northern California Special Olympics.
