The Los Altos Block Action Team has scheduled a series of fall Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trainings to prepare local residents for emergencies.

The sessions are slated 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and 25 and Oct. 2, 9 and 16 at Intero Real Estate Services, 496 First St., No. 200, Los Altos.

Topics include:

• Disaster medicine

• Earthquake preparedness

• Damage assessment

• Search and rescue

• Disaster psychology

• Fire suppression

• Incident Command System

Attendance at all sessions is required for certification.

Cost is $95, which includes all five sessions, graduation exercises, a CERT vest, a hard hat and a backpack with emergency supplies. Cost is $25 for those taking the course as a refresher who already have the supply kit. The registration deadline is Sept. 8.

The Block Action Team is a program of the Los Altos Community Foundation.
