An exhibition of paintings of the Los Altos Civic Center Orchard, “POPs in the Orchard,” is scheduled to open 5:30 p.m. July 1 at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.
The exhibition will continue through the month of July, just as the apricots in the landmark orchard reach the peak of their summer season. The opening will feature a ribbon cutting followed by a reception in the garden of the Los Altos History Museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.
Most of the plein-air paintings in the show originated during a “paint out” in March that attracted more than two dozen artists from the Peninsula Outdoor Painters (POPs).
The orchard, planted in 1901 by J. Gilbert Smith, is listed on the California State Parks Office of Historic Preservation Points of Interest and Santa Clara County’s Heritage Resource Inventory of Historical Landmarks.
Community librarian Judith Gregg, who joined the Los Altos Library earlier this year, will be the guest of honor at both the ribbon cutting and the reception.
The reception will feature the jazz group Park Avenue Jazz (including POPs member Caroline Garbarino and David Samuels), along with wine and apricot snacks. The schedule:
5:30 p.m.: Ribbon cutting at the orchard door of the library.
5:30-6 p.m.: Exhibition tour in the library.
6-7:30 p.m.: Reception in the adjacent garden of the Los Altos History Museum.
Admission is free and open to the public.
