The Committee for Green Foothills has scheduled a hike to celebrate Mary Davey’s birthday, life and contributions to the environmental organization 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 31 at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve, 22500 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos.
Davey, a Los Altos Hills resident, died in 2010. She was a longtime Committee for Green Foothills board member and advocate for affordable housing, social justice and the environment.
In addition to the many public and nonprofit organizations she served, Davey dedicated much of her life to protecting open space through the Los Altos-based Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. Her involvement led to the 1972 formation of the district, which she served as a director for 16 years.
Davey’s community leadership earned several awards, including the Committee for Green Foothills’ Nature’s Inspiration honor in 2009, the Humanitarian Award from Hidden Villa and the Woman of Achievement Award from the Santa Clara Commission on the Status of Women.
“It would be wonderful if everyone on the planet had a small amount of Mary Davey in them,” said Lennie Roberts of the Committee for Green Foothills. “The world would be a better place.”
The hike is free, but donations are appreciated.
