There’s nothing like family friendly entertainment from The Pop Ups to cure those post-Christmas blues.

After the gifts are unwrapped and culinary feasts consumed, local residents are invited to a free holiday concert 4-5 p.m. Thursday by the indie pop band The Pop Ups in the Hillview Community Center Social Hall, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

The Grammy-nominated musical duo from Brooklyn will add some jingles and puppets to the family-friendly concert.

“There will be lots of surprises, and we guarantee some seriously danceable tunes. Come on a family adventure to Pop Up City,” said Jacob Stein of the show he and Jason Rabinowitz will present in Los Altos.

Inspired by their previous work for “kid-centered” groups and Rabinowitz’s experiences as a new dad, the band members said they build their performances around educational concepts and embellish them with “engaging elements that are fun for all in the audience.”

“In our live shows, we focus on audience participation and creating a whole world inhabited by puppets with lots of laughs,” Stein said. “This isn’t a band show where we just play through the songs – it’s an adventure.”
